So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. – 1 Peter 4:19
I get this, when times are tough we are to “Go to God” and “do what’s right”. The going to God part has become a lot easier for me over the past few years but the “do what’s right” part is sometimes hard. Have you seen the messed up world we are living in? How do I do what’s right? Is there really anything I can do that will make a difference anyway?
When I look at the world through the lens of my eyes I see despair, evilness and a fallen world with no hope. When I look through the lens of my mind I am overwhelmed, the issues are too vast and too devastating to comprehend and I cannot even fathom how to begin to fix the problems of this world. But when I look through the lens of my heart, I see God; my Faithful Creator, who created the Heavens and the Earth, I know that through Him all things are possible and that my focus must always be on Him.
I’ve realized that my focus determines my destiny! If my focus is on the world, I am focused on the temporary and the broken, but if my focus is on God, my focus is on the eternal and on the perfect. When I can stay centered on what Jesus told us is the first and greatest commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind”, I am able to see with a clear focus on the eternal.
By doing what’s right and finding opportunities to serve in God’s army I am blessed with the opportunity to collaborate with the God of the universe, to invest in that which will last for all eternity.
